Mia Faith made her stage debut last night, Wednesday June 23rd, taking part in New York City’s Access Theatre, Short Play Festival, Celebrating Gay Pride. She stared in one of the 10 short plays, from playrights around the world, staged as one 2 hour production. In “If a Ball Could Dream”, Mia Faith portrayed an adolescent girl that felt more like a boy, and pondered her sittuation through abstractions and role play. Performing against Dervla Connaughton, her more standardly configured playmate, the two pulled off complex subject mater extremely well. Mia Faith also participated in the final play of the production, “Zoo Story” as the adopted, beat-boxing, penguin daughter of proud gay penguin dads. When one of her dads turns straight, then misserable, as a result of medical tampering, it’s up to his family to bring him back around.
The production was exceedingly sound and full of merit, taking itself just seriously enough for the diverse and thought provoking subject matter, while retaining all due levity and, well, gayness. Performances continue through June 27th at The Access, Gallery Space, 380 Broadway, NYC. Tickets are $20 or discounted for Facebook friends of the theatre.
